Duo Of The Month November 2016 "Twisted Whisker"

When you combine 2 beards and a couple of burly Aussie blokes who offer a unique blend of country/southern roots and bluesy rhythms, you’ve got yourself Twisted Whisker. Twisted Whisker like to call it their “Swamp Music”. The duo’s unique and simple performances with minimal equipment and big sound are proof less is more. They sing about real life struggles and redemption. Their lyrics are thought provoking while their gritty yet simple hooks are guaranteed to get you foot stompin’ and toe tappin’.

The Townsville duo formed in August 2014 with Damien “Damo” Martin on vocals and guitar and Justin “Yowie” Smith on percussion. Inspiring their passion and fuelling their creative powers, the duo give credit to musical influences such as16 Horsepower, Wovenhand and Bradford Loomis. Their debut EP, “Bring Out Your Dead” is a compilation of their early originals and self produced under their own label and recorded in their home studio, Stomp Box Studios. To complement their debut EP the duo have created a music video through Greenhouse Townsville, for their title track available on YouTube Bring Out Your Dead Twisted Whisker.

Twisted Whisker always enjoy performing live and seeing people respond to their original music. Twisted Whisker regularly share their music on the local Townsville pub scene, at festivals, at their local barber shop and even just on their own front lawn. 2016 is a big year of festivals for the duo, who after recently playing at Palm Creek Folk Festival and Towers Rocks (September), are now preparing for the Airlie Beach Music Festival (3rd-6th November).
