Band Of The Month June 2015 "The Godfathers Of Funk"

One of the mainstays of live music in the North, The GodFathers of Funk have been rocking the pub, club and corporate entertainment scene for years and these fun & flamboyant funksters always leave fans clamouring for more.

Spawning out of late 90’s band Soul Train, a few years as Souled Out led to the creation of a bigger show band for a big festival gig, and The GodFathers of Funk were born. These guys play a crazy set list of funk, jazz, R & B, reggae & soul, and solid rock - a continuous mix of hits in their own creative and imaginative style.

A set might range from Hot Chocolate, Cool & The Gang and James Brown to Lenny Kravitz, the Bee Gees, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, KC & the Sunshine Band. If its classic rock – try some Pink Floyd, Springsteen, Stones and Beatles. If you can dance to it, shake your bootie, singalong or just hum a few bars and breath to it - The GodFathers will give it the treatment.

The GodFathers of Funk have always been built around drummer vocalist Jeff Jimmieson and long serving bassist Erwin Sjoekoer and the present line-up includes Cristi Jimmieson on lead guitar and vocals, Marty Shiel on sax, guitar, keys and vocals and Andrew Tarnawski on bass/rhythm guitar. The entertaining difference of this band is that they are all multi-instrumentalists and all sing, allowing everyone to swap around and change up the pace and feel of the band through the night.

While pubs, clubs and private gigs fill the calendar, big festivals and corporate events are where the band really shines supporting most classic Aussie acts including Jimmy Barnes, Mental as Anything, Ross Wilson, The Choir Boys, Diesel, Dragon, The Party Boys, Machine Gun Felatio, Shannon Noll, James Morrison and… Russell Crow and Twenty Odd Foot of Grunt.

The GodFathers have been regular highlights of the Not Too Old to Dance concerts, the Julia Creek Dirt to Dust and will headline the local content on the upcoming Towers Rocks Festival of September.

“The GodFathers of Funk stole the show…. These guys came on stage and got the crowd on their feet from the first minute with tremendous energy and the tightest selection of music - they were without doubt the hit of the festival and playing them both nights right before the headline act took the crowd into a frenzy. They more than held their own with some of the biggest names in the country" … Mark Harvey, Director of The Festival Group

The GodFathers of Funk are a big occasion band - perfect for corporate and gala entertainment where you seriously want to impress your clients and give them a funky good time. All live and without the benefit of computer tricks or a safety net.
